New Products at the Range Again, Video Soon

I was at the range this weekend, practicing and trying out a couple of new products:

  • Grip Force Beavertail Adapter
  • Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff
...and one old one:
  • Glock adjustable sites.

Unfortunately, I was alone and it's tricky working the camera (actually my Windows phone) by yourself. So my video is rough, but I'm working on it. I'll summarize by saying I like both products and am questioning the Glock adjustable sights.

I've achieved what I wanted to with the Grip Force adapter...inexpensively at $25 on eBay. The Howard Leight earmuff went way past my expectations at $46 on Amazon.com. The Glock sights are really frustrating me. Rather than writing about it I'd like to get some video in here and talk about it. So as soon as I can get one of my sons or daughters out there to help me out at the range with video, I'll get a review together on each on in turn.

In the meantime, range safety and etiquette is always a good topic. I know I've had my share of nervous moments and have been introducing new shooters to the sport who were very nervous around other shooters. As ladies and gentlemen of the gun, we should always try to do what ladies and gentlemen do, which is make others (especially new shooters) comfortable at the range. I want to close with this great video provided by the NSSF on range safety and etiquette. I'll be back with some videos soon.

Honestly, it's a very well done video and worth a few minutes of your time. Enjoy!

Settin' My Sights

I've recently gotten more serious about pistol shooting. Being unhappy with the sights on my Glock 34, I've set out to do something about it. Recently, I was more guess-and-by-gosh. I was unhappy about shooting a little left and adjusted my sights a couple clicks to the right.

It appeared to be just enough. I say "just enough" because I actually won some money playing pistol tic-tac-toe, hitting what I aimed at and beating out a more experienced shooter. It was a buck, but hey, a buck's a buck. (That's what keeps it friendly. As a general rule, anytime something gets over $25...it's not friendly anymore and I tend to stay away from it. People can be really sore losers.)

Caldwell Pistolero Shooting Rest
I don't want to SWAG (scientific-wild-ass-guess, which is still better than a WAG) it anymore and purchased a Caldwell Pistolero Handgun Rest. The street price was $30 (MSRP $40) at my favorite local gun shop, Mega Sports, and I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend, getting my G34 properly sighted in, and reviewing the pistol rest. One of the guys on the Shooting Sports committee (of which I'm now a member) built a bench for the range, so that's going to work well with the pistol rest.

Stay tuned, I'll be reviewing it soon, hopefully with some video too.
