Mayor Daley (sometimes fondly referred to as "Governor Daley" by my friends) has done it again. It has been my observation that the Mayor doesn't always check his facts (or remember his history) before speaking. Yesterday the Mayor spoke out against Illinois Concealed carry asserting the tragic assassination of JFK as part of his support. I hadn't been born yet when that event occurred, but even I know a rifle, fired by a defector to the Soviet Union, and not a concealed handgun. As a matter of fact, two out of the three examples he offered I know rifles were used. I haven't checked into the third one.
I know there are Illinois Law Enforcement organizations in favor of concealed carry, so let's keep the ball rolling. In reality Police Officers are typically not first responders to a crime, and that's not any ding on them. If you've been following this blog you know that my brother is an officer and I respect what they do. It's just the reality of it. In fact the potential victim is the first responder and needs to be able to defend his or herself. I see how boys react to my daughter when they find out she shoots! (The same with my wife.) In my opinion, it changes their view of her to one that's more respectful.
Write your representatives and give them the support to keep it going! Remember, gun control is hitting what you aim at.
In shooting sports you don't have to buy a beautiful piece of furniture, spending thousands of dollars, to go out and have fun. "Ugly" guns can do you proud too. Shooting sports can be affordable and fun even in Illinois.
