Top Shot!

I don't know whether my brother, the LE Sniper, would agree with me, but this season I think Top Shot! (sponsored by our friends at Bass Pro) has finally gotten serious. I'm seeing some respectable talent there. Tonight's show, with the Ruger 10-22, was just plain fun. With an old-fashioned shooting arcade like that I would have been like a kid in a candy store.

One thing I would like to see (and honestly I think this is mainly for the sake of drama) is more respect for civilian competitors. The golf coach, Jay, is pretty darn good. I can't say I agree with his technique all the time, but he's been getting it done.

Next week they take on using the Barrett .50 cal...awesome!

Shootin' Ugli and Shotgun Girl!

Shotgun Girl, a new nickname for Kari...maybe? I came across a new song by JaneDear and it just reminded me of her. She's been shooting with me the past couple of months with the cheapest of cheap shotguns and doing great. Just a couple of things to mention. First, another great song by JaneDear, Shotgun Girl.

Second, in the interest of promoting women getting into shooting sports, I've included a link to an article by Richard Owen in the January 2011 issue of Sporting Clays, Sporting Road, The Synergistics of Shotgunning. Richard offers insights into how when your significant other gets involved with you in the shooting sports that your own enjoyment of the sport and closeness with your better-half increases significantly. I agree and recommend Richard's article...even though I haven't gotten Kari to read it yet.

Hooray for Lyman/Trius!

Lyman obviously cares. After sharing with them where my Trius One-Step broke (at the welds), they agreed to send me a replacement part. I've since reassembled it and tried it out last weekend when my wife and I went shooting. (More on my wife taking up the sport soon. She loves it!)

It works great again! After it broke (and while I was waiting to hear back from Lyman) I went out an bought another thrower for $40 from Do-All Outdoors. It didn't do-all at all and only made me want my One-Step in working order even more. After only 75 rounds, the string nearly wore through, it kept flipping itself over (I have pictures) and one of the parts flew off with a clay. My wife accurately destroyed the clay and the airborne part with one shot. Between getting launched, shot and the snow we never did find the part. The Do-All thrower has been retired to a special area of my garage.

So, my 1-Step is performing like a top and I'm happy to have it back in working order. Thanks again to the folks at Lyman. I put them right up there with George Trulock of Trulock Chokes for service.

I know I've been silent for a while, but I'll have more soon. As I mentioned, my wife, Kari, has taken up the sport and is thoroughly enjoying it. More on that soon.
