I'm going to depart from blogging about shooting sports briefly (although I did get out today) and talk about my new PC from Asus. In hopes of needing the horsepower in the new future I acquired an Asus G73. (I'm still looking for work. If you know anyone needing someone who's more than an "IT guy", please introduce me. You can find me on LinkedIn.) It's a beast of a machine with an Intel i7 Core, giving me 8 processors. People complain that it weighs too much (it is a desktop replacement). It doesn't bother me one bit. It weighs about as much as my Benelli Nova pump. What's to complain about?
As a developer I have a rule: My machine is mine and I want it the way I want it. It's a control thing. I'm typically quite easy to work with and pleasant, but when you're conducting research (business or tech), testing out new tech or configuring the environment for any reason...I need the control. If I break it it's my problem. I'm my own tech support. I was displeased when something kept changing my personalized settings. Alright...(mmm)...being a Rocketeer fan I got some cool wallpaper that kept changing back to the factory default. Unacceptable!
Without getting deep into frustrating and generally boring research and Asus tech support being incredibly little help, I found that uninstalling Power 4 Gear resolved the problem entirely. I offer this for all the folks out there running into the same problem this bloatware is causing and receiving little to no help from either Asus or other well meaning, but equally mystified Internet folk. So, uninstall Power 4 Gear. You'd think Asus tech support would have this nailed down, but no.
It was beautiful shooting out at Silver Springs range today and I was happy to see others out there too. Opening my car door I was greeted by the smell of gunpowder and the sight of a turkey vulture riding the updraft over freshly harvested fields. I ALMOST got some people to join me today, but alas, no. More on that later. I fixed my problem and shared it with the world. Ending on a good note...it's time to grab the shotguns and head for bed.
